Bike Ride
Quote from mbonner on October 7, 2023, 2:26 pmI was trying to convince Jameson to get into road cycling with me. It took a few years but he finally came around since running is never fun. He got himself a great bike, the manliest tights he could find, and some fashionable Oakley's. We decided that we wanted to do about 25ish miles. So we headed out Lake Mead Parkway towards Lake Las Vegas. He had the computer with a mileage tracker on his bike, so I told him when we hit 1.5 miles we will stop and turn around to head back. This will later come back to haunt me.
So we leave the house and cautiously maneuver around cars and stop lights. We get out to Lake Mead Parkway and we are cruising. It is a wide shoulder with plenty of room. As we ride we take turns blocking the wind and and feel like we actually know what we are doing. The weather is great and we share a few laughs as we ride. As we approach the turn off for Lake Las Vegas, he tells me that we are getting close to our turn around point. I let him lead so he can let me know when we should turn around.
We are cruising uphill towards our turn around point. I am right on his back wheel, tucked in hiding from the wind. The next thing I notice is that Jameson hits his breaks and comes to a complete stop right in front of me. I have no time or space to react and my feet are clipped into the pedals, so I am stuck. I brace myself and ride into the back of his bike and fall over sideways onto the road. I am sure I let out a oomph or more higher pitch yelp. I look up at him from under my bike and he is laughing his ass off. I get heated and ask him, "why did you just stop?". He looks at me with a slight smile and says, "You told me to stop at 12.5 miles, so I did." I started to laugh and wondered why I ever thought cycling with Jameson would be normal. He always found ways to bring humor to any situation and lighten any mood. You are so truly missed everyday.
